The Director of Environmental Policies and Natural Environment of the Generalitat, Marc Vilahur, and the Director of L’Energètica, Daniel Pérez, visited the Prenergy (Grupo RUBAU) photovoltaic park in Vidreres on November 26.
Both public representatives reiterated the Catalan administration’s strong interest in this solar park, promoted by Prenergy (Grupo RUBAU), which is set to become the first 100% publicly owned solar park in Catalonia. L’Energètica, the public company of the Generalitat de Catalunya responsible for renewable energy production and supply, pre-selected the park for acquisition at a cost of €2.9 million last October. The pre-selection highlights the project’s excellent execution, as six projects were submitted to the public call for solar park purchases, but only two met the technical and economic requirements set by the public company.
During the visit, RUBAU’s CEO, Miguel Jurado, provided technical details about the park, which has a peak capacity of 3.4 MWp—equivalent to 50% of the total energy consumption of households in Vidreres, a town with a population of over 8,000. The infrastructure spans 5.6 hectares and includes 4,872 photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 695 Wp each. Construction is already complete, and authorization for operation is expected in the first quarter of 2025.
The Catalan administration’s interest in conducting studies on the changes in fauna and flora behavior in such installations is noteworthy. Vilahur indicated that the goal of these studies is to safeguard natural biodiversity and provide insights into the impact of photovoltaic energy infrastructure on natural ecosystems.
