On 24 November, Minister of Development José Luis Ábalos attended the opening of the stretch of the A-2 dual carriageway between Sils and Maçanet de la Selva (Girona). The project, with a budget totalling more than 24 million euros, has been carried out by Construcciones Rubau.
The building of this section is a key step in the improvement of the A-2 north-eastern dual carriageway between Barcelona and the French border. The project will provide easy access from the county of La Selva to Girona (the provincial capital), the airport and France. It is a high-capacity stretch covering 2.75 kilometres, providing an alternative to the AP-7 toll motorway. The section runs between the municipality of Maçanet de la Selva and Vidreres, linking up with the C-35, and Sils, connecting to the C-63.
It should be highlighted that the construction work has been performed while permitting traffic to use the road, in a constant attempt to minimise the impact on users. This factor was a major constraint on the execution of the work and posed a great challenge for the Construcciones Rubau team.
The new road will improve the traffic flow throughout the province. The completion of the project, carried out in accordance with the highest quality standards, has resulted in a modern road infrastructure, ensuring safety, speed and comfort for users.
