The conservation and maintenance works of the Eix Transversal (C-25), along with all associated services for its safety and proper functioning, will be carried out starting this February by the joint venture (UTE) formed by RUBAU, Sorigué, Romero Polo, and Acisa.
On January 1, 2023, the Catalan Government resumed direct management of the Eix Transversal, recognizing the complexity of maintaining this 153-kilometer road axis between Cervera and Caldes de Malavella. This is one of the largest road maintenance contracts in Catalonia, covering a total equivalent length of 428 km, including 25 twin tunnels and 179 structures. For management purposes, the joint venture will operate from a control center in Gurb and a subcenter in Calaf.
The Eix Transversal is an essential route for mobility and economic development in Catalonia, with a daily traffic volume of 16,000 vehicles, 23% of which are heavy vehicles and freight transport.
The companies forming the joint venture are committed to ensuring the safety and functionality of the road. Their responsibilities include maintaining tunnels, pavements, bridges, viaducts, and structures, as well as carrying out monitoring, improvement, and traffic management tasks. Additionally, they will oversee the migration of tunnel management systems to the state-of-the-art SCADA Wonderware system. The contract has been awarded for a total of 46 million euros, running until February 2029.
To achieve these goals, the joint venture has assembled a team of 52 professionals, including 7 technicians, 15 control room and systems operators, 20 traffic management personnel, and 10 dedicated to 24/7 surveillance. Their objective is to ensure the highest level of quality and rigor, fulfilling the commitments made and guaranteeing the maintenance and safety of this vital route for passenger and freight transport in Catalonia.
